  1. I think that everyone should have an opportunity to get a FIDE rating as it is not really such a big deal especially now that the entry point is rather low.

When I was an active player many years ago the entry point was 2200 and it was so difficult that FIDE allowed 50% scores in events like the Asian Cities to be given a 2205 rating and we even organised special rating tournaments to create 2200+ players so we had a pool of players to help the rest get ratings.

Unfortunately many of the players of my generation immediately instead “retired” once the got their 2200+ rating.

FIDE apparently recognised there was a money making opportunity by creating a new award - that of Candidate Master (CM) - which basically means someone who aspires to be a Master, by targeting chess enthusiasts who fall short of becoming an FM, IM or GM.

But be advised that CM is not recognised as a title in meeting FIDE title regulations but basically if you have a 2200+ rating who can play a fee you can get a certificate from FIDE with CM on it.

So for the many Malaysian who have a 2200+ rating and want some recognition for your hard work, just write in to MCF who will advise FIDE and you will also become a CM.
