Time Control: 90 minutes with 30 seconds increment per move.
System: 9 rounds swiss
Closing date: 25 May 2008
Misc: Results of this tournament will be used as one of the criteria to choose players to represent the country for 2008/2009.

Can someone tell the general local chess community what are the international events MCF thinks that Malaysia should be represented in, the dates of these events, and the selection criteria?
I seem to only see things like “will be a basis for selection” and for one am not sure what is the other basis and selection for what and it seems that end of the day it is question of learning about an event and being able to pay your own way that usually decides!
Last year no one went the Asia Individual Championships (World Cup Qualifying) where board and lodging was provided, we did not send anyone to the Asian Junior Championships although I heard Anas was nominated, and worst we did not send a team to the Asian Team Championship either despite Malaysia initiating this event for the Tun Razak Trophy and being the first ever host.
